Mamá's kitchen wisdom & one copy mistake 🌶️

✨Too busy to read today? Jump to the bottom for the speedy rundown.✨

Back home for the weekend, between the chisme, Vicente Fernandez playing in the background, and the smell of café de olla, my mom reminded me of something I’ve been forgetting in my own business.

She was toasting the arroz (rice) — slow, precise, like always — and telling me a story from when I was a little girl.

I know, moms right? 😅

Her version states I was stubborn, impatient, and always scribbling stories in the margins of my notebooks.

I agree with the scribbling stories part...

The other two are debatable — but that's para otro día (for another day).

She laughed and said:
"Mija, you've always known what you wanted. You just needed people to believe you."

And chillona (natural crier) vibes aside, it made me think of my work: that’s the entire job of your copy.

Not just to describe what you do.
Not even to “sell” in the traditional sense.

It’s to build belief — the kind that makes someone ready for what you're offering.

Which then made my mind think about one of my favorite marketers, Abi Pendergast.

She talks about this moment of emotional readiness — The Belief Gap.

That tiny space between:

"I don’t think this is for me..."
and
"Wait — maybe this could work for me after all."

✨ Your job in your copy is to close that gap.

Not with pressure.

Not extra información that leads to overwhelm and fatigue.
But by naming the exact moment your dream client is standing in.

So if your engagement is high but your sales are meh, ask yourself:

→ Have you named the internal shift someone needs to make before they’re ready to say yes?
→ Have you reflected their thoughts before the decision, not just after?

That, Reader, is where trust begins.

That’s where your message starts to sell.

So if you’re wondering whether your copy is really preparing your audience to say yes (or if it’s skipping steps entirely), I wrote something para ti (for you):

👉🏽 Read: 3 Signs Your Launch Copy Isn’t Closing the Belief Gap (And How to Fix It)

It breaks down what to look for in your messaging before you’re ready to sell — and how to know if you’re ready to work with a copy strategist (like me 😌).

Sending love from mamá’s kitchen...

P.S. if you’re wondering how my mama’s arroz turned out — chef's kiss.

P.P.S: If this resonates, I’d love to hear what your own "belief gap" looks like right now — I know you have some thoughts, even if they're subconscious. 👀

This is your chance to bring 'em to la luz.

  • Your copy's true job isn't just to describe or sell—it's to build belief in your audience
  • The "Belief Gap" is that space between "This isn't for me" and "Maybe this could work for me"
  • High engagement but low sales often means you haven't closed this belief gap
  • Effective copy names the exact moment your dream client is in, reflecting their thoughts before they decide
  • Check if your messaging prepares people to say yes or if it's skipping important trust-building steps
